Yellow Inn Casting Breakdown

FIRST SISTER: co-owner of the Yellow Inn. Selfish. Death and violence have been normalized in her life. Straightforward with no pretense about her greed; she curses to the guests and workers alike. She is a master of profanity and crude words. She lives underground where it’s safe. She stay out of sight when danger is imminent. She doesn’t intervene.

SECOND SISTER: co-owner of the Yellow Inn. Selfish. Death and violence have been normalized in her life. She also expresses her greed and cruelty unfiltered. she also curses to the guests and workers alike. She is also a master of profanity and crude words. She lives underground where it’s safe.

THIRD SISTER: altruistic, innocent, little bit stubborn yet tries everything she can to keep the guests from killing each other every day. She is the one ray of hope in the play. She also lives underground.COOK: an employee of the Yellow Inn. He is not a part of the management but at the same time, he makes money on the side by renting out kitchen knives to the guests. He talks about leaving, saying he doesn’t belong here. But he finds excuses to stay. He is also one of whom sustain and manage conflict in order to benefit from it.

RETIRED GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL: sloppy. He may always miss the heyday of himself. Before retirement, there were always many people around him. After retirement, everything is not as good as it used to be. At least, he thinks he has still got it.BUSINESSMAN: cold-blooded. has become rich for (maybe illegal) property speculation. He only cares himself. He doesn’t believe anyone. He doesn’t care other people. He only interested in maintaining his own social and economic status.

LAYWER: externally elegant but internally vulgar. She keeps a cozy relationship between politicians and large conglomerates(Korean expression ‘chaebol’: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaebol) for her own benefits. Also obsessed with authority.

ELECRICIAN: radical and progressive. Good in agitating and/or being agitated by someone who is in a similar situation. Becomes an ally to SALESMAN later in the play.

PLUMBER: limited communication skills but she is a valuable ally and a loyal friend to his fellow ELECTRICIAN. she could be also sweet, naive and a bit dumb.

SALESMAN: hot-tempered. He has many complains about the unfairness of the world. He blames older generation and refuses to understand them.

COLLEGE STUDENT: ontologically-idealistic but powerless. He once tries to flee but ends up coming back. However, he is the only one character chooses his own death in the play while other characters are brimming with the desire to live.

GRAVEDIGGERS & PROSTITUTES: they are laborers/entertainers living day by day in this dark, dusty, terrible world of Yellow Inn. Some abilities on a cappella or beatbox will be a plus.Note: Callback sides and/or monologues will be distributed when the callback list is announced.
