About the Camp

­The Texas State Theatre Summer Camp is a two-week residential camp designed for high school age students interested in pursuing theatre as a part of their higher education. Students will participate in masterclasses taught by our faculty and guest instructors; collegiate audition and branding workshops; as well as a multitude of performance and design opportunities over the course of two weeks.

The camp features three experience options:

  • The Performer
    • Masterclasses in acting, directing, movement, voice, and more!
    • College audition workshop
    • Brand Workshop: Resumes and digital portfolios
    • Audition ready headshots
    • Multiple performance opportunities throughout the camp!
  • The Technician
    • Masterclasses in lighting, sound, stage management, and more!
    • College audition workshop
    • Brand Workshop: Resumes and digital portfolios
    • Audition ready headshots
    • Multiple design opportunities throughout the camp!
    • Experience working in our scenic and costume shops
  • The Duo
    • The ability to attend both performance and technical masterclasses
    • College audition workshop (focusing on both performance and tech)
    • Brand Workshop: Resumes and digital portfolios
    • Audition ready headshots
    • The ability to both work on and perform in shows!

In addition to the highly intensive theatrical activities, campers will also experience memorable summer camp moments. Our camp features themed movie and game nights, ensemble building exercises, an end-of-camp dance, and more!

 

Camp Fees

Your camp tuition covers the University’s residential fee, meals, t-shirts, and more.

Camp tuition - $1,200

  • $400 Non-refundable deposit due with application by May 15, 2022
  • Remaining balance of $800 to be paid on July 1, 2022

Available Scholarships

A limited number of Texas State Theatre partial scholarships are available to students. Students who wish to apply should send a letter in requesting aid explaining their financial need and situation along with a letter of recommendation from their theatre arts teacher. It should arrive no later than April 15, 2022.

Application and Registration

Please note, this camp is designed for high school students who will have completed their Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior year.

Thoroughly review and complete the Student Parent Handbook. 

Application and Deposit are due to the Department of Theatre and Dance by May 15 of each year.

The University COVID Policy

Information regarding the university's protocols for COVID will be communicated to campers as new information is made available. Students may be expected to take show a negative COVID test prior to moving into the dorm. All specific information about COVID guidelines will be communicated in the weeks letting up to arrival.
