Robin Lewis

Robin Lewis is head of the Musical Theatre Dance Program for Texas State University. Robin is a twelve year Broadway and national Broadway touring veteran.  Credits include: Fosse, Dance Captain of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and Dance Captain of A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Gardens. He toured with the first national tour of The Producers and performed that show with Jason Alexander and Martin Short in Hollywood.  He has toured in A Chorus Line (Don), Hello Dolly with Michelle Lee, Beauty and the Beast, as well as performances at The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Robin was also the Dance Captain for Charles Busch’s musical The Green Heart for the Manhattan Theatre Club. Robin can also be seen on the PBS Dance in America movie Fosse: A Celebration in Dance.   Regionally, he has performed seasons with the California Music Theater, Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera Company, Baltimore Centerstage, Northshore Theatre and many others.  Robin is an accomplished choreographer, having created works for TexARTS’ Broadway Series Music Man with Rebecca Luker and Jim Walton directed by Lee Roy Reams, Damn Yankees with Meg Gillentine at the Paramount as well as Evita for Oklahoma Lyric, Zachary Scott Theatre and others regionally. Several works have garnered Austin Critics’ Circle and B. Iden Payne Awards.  The New York Times recognized his choreographic work for Zachary Scott’s production of Porgy and Bess at the Austin Music Hall. Austin Chronicle awarded Robin the 2008 Best in Austin Award.  Robin has worked with such stars as Julie Andrews, Sandy Duncan, Tony Randall, Shirley Jones, Carol Channing, Andrea McCardle, Tim Curry, Ben Vereen to name a few.  He has been fortunate to work with some of the best American Broadway theater director/choreographers including Susan Stroman, Ann Reinking, Herbert Ross, Rob Marshal and Jerry Mitchell.   He is a guest teacher nationally and has guest taught at American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, US Performing Arts Camp, Oklahoma University, University of Texas in Austin, Camp Broadway, Broadway Classroom in NYC, and many others.  He is a member of Actors Equity Association and International Musical Theater Educators International, and Texas Educational Theatre Association.  In addition, he was a national competitive Figure Skater from Birmingham, Alabama where he graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Lewis is the Co-founder/Producer and Artistic Director of TexARTS in Austin, Texas – which produces professional musical theater at the Paramount (downtown Austin) and at TexARTS' new Morris Theater in the Capital Lakes Region.  Through their highly successful Academy program, TexARTS invites Broadway and other professional guest teachers to work one on one with local students, serving over 450 families in the Austin region – www.tex-arts.org.
