Janice Paige Bishop has extensive and varied experience in theatre, nightclubs, television, and film. After graduating from the University of Texas with a BFA in Acting with Honors, she moved to Los Angeles where she landed a role on the television show Days of Our Lives. She worked on the show for six years playing various roles. She also appeared in various primetime television shows including Archie’s Place, American Girls, The Spice of Life, The Suzy Chaffee Special, and Live From the Comedy Store.
As one of the original members of The L.A. Connection improv troupe, Paige performed at various colleges and comedy clubs on the west coast. She then directed and performed with a 3-woman comedy act called And Company which performed at The Improvisation and other L.A. clubs such as The Blue Door and The Troubadour. They eventually played exclusively at The Comedy Store on Sunset Blvd. along with other performers such as Robin Williams and Sam Kinison.
During this time Paige remained active in the L.A. theatre scene. Her roles included Prudence in Beyond Therapy, Laura in Going Down, Elaine Navazio in Last of the Red Hot Lovers, and Kathryn in Jeremy.
Paige returned to the University of Texas graduating with an MFA in Acting in 1990. While there she was nominated for a B. Iden Payne Award for “Best Featured Actress in a Drama” and won the Selection Committee’s First Choice Award for “Best Actress in a Drama” for her role as Marthy in Anna Christie.
Paige co-wrote and performed a one-woman play called Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle and toured the show from 1990 to 1992.
Miss Bishop has been teaching in the Texas State University Department of Theatre and Dance since 1991. She has taught Acting for Television and Film, Beginning Acting for Stage, Intermediate Acting, Characterization, BFA Pre-Professional, Improvisation Techniques, and Introduction to Fine Arts.
Along with teaching classes, Paige has directed The Miracle Worker and Harvey for the Texas State Department of Theatre. She also appeared in the Mainstage Theatre’s productions of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean directed by G.W. Bailey and in Impossible Marriage directed by Charles Ney. For the 2005-2006 season, Paige is directing The Exonerated.
Most recently Paige was featured in the film Rhinos which premiered at the Austin Film Festival and appeared in the film Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock and Michael Caine. Currently she can be seen in a television commercial for Cellular One.
