Master of Arts in Playwriting

Graduate Program in Playwriting

The graduate program in playwriting at Texas State University is a 36 hour course of study leading to a Master of Arts degree. The playwriting thesis usually entails writing an original full-length play which is typically produced by the Department, and completion of a written paper detailing the writing and production processes. Students enter the program in the fall semester.

Playwriting Accomplishments

In 2009 A. John Boulanger, a playwriting graduate student won the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival National Student Playwriting Award.  To read the article click here.  To read more about John's accomplishments click here.

April 2009 - the graduate playwriting students along with advanced undergraduate playwriting students started a public reading salon of works-in-progress held weekly at a local San Marcos restaurant.  A student director gathers student actors together to read the plays submitted for each week.

February 2009 - Austin Fronterafest Short Fringe at Hyde Park Theatre - two graduate students participated this year with original plays:
